Neese Automotive is a leading auto repair company in Fort Walton Beach. Our team of technicians are knowledgeable in a range of services from oil changes, diesel repair, air conditioning services, clutch repairs, and more!

Here are a few traveling tips from our team of technicians.

Have your children sit in the back seat.

Infants, under 20 lbs, should be in a rear-facing car seat with a harness.

Toddlers weighing 20-40 lbs should be in a seat with a harness at or above their shoulders.

Finally, for young children over 40 lbs, should sit in a booster seat making the seat belt fit snug across their chest.

Traveling with children can be stressful; bring along toys, video cames, books, or portible DVD players to keep them from getting restless.

Stay awake during your trip.

Sleep is a big factor in staying awake on a long road trip. Some may stay up packing last minute to make sure they have everything they need. Adults need 7-9 hours of sleep before a long trip. 8 1/2 – 9 1/2 hours of sleep is needed for teens.

Make sure your passenger is awake to keep you awake. If you’re feeling tired, change drivers.

Avoid any medications that might make you drowsey, which includes algery or cold medication.

Know when you’re getting tired, which are drifting, yawning repeatedly, difficulty focusing.

Make stops every few hours. This will force you to get out of the car and stretch your legs.

Avoid motion or car sickness by cracking a window, driving at the same speed, and eat lighter meals.

Get your car checked before going on long road trips. You don’t want to have to call a tow truck in the middle of a long trip. This is where we come in. Neese Automotive has technicians that are knowledgeable in all areas of car repairs. Mention you are going on a road trip and you want the car checked before going on the long journey.

We previously mentioned looked over the outside of your car, it’s time to get into the heavy duty section that is the interior. Remove all the clutter from inside the car, first. Since you’re cleaning the car and improving it, why not get a solid cleanup out of the way? In colder weather, cleaning out the car is not a top priority, but cleaning in warmer weather is a cinch. Next, check your oil filter as well as keeping up with your oil changes. Your cooling system should also be a top priority, so inspect your radiator, too. Of course, the air conditioning system must be operable at least. Going into the spring and summer months, A/C will naturally become your best friend, so it’s imperative to make sure it is functioning properly. This means cleaning dust and grime out of the vents and air filter; not only will this keep cool air optimal, but it will also improve the quality of the air. Finally, check your car fluids, like the transmission and power steering fluids and make sure they’re fresh, not dull.

These are basic tips to keeping your car in superb shape, not just for spring. They do help the transition from season to season, though so it is essential to keep an eye on your car and maintain proper care. The money spent on a functioning car is well worth the price, so by the time spring rolls around, you can drive around comfortably knowing your vehicle is just fine.

Now that the winter months are nearly over, this doesn’t mean proper car preparation is over. Indeed, while the spring season is normally devoid of extreme weather, there is still plenty to do to keep your car in tip-top shape. Aside from the standard services like tune-ups and oil changes, there are more specific tips to keep in mind, specifically tricks of the trade you would not normally consider when seasons change, but for your consideration, here is an accommodating guide on effective car care.

First, let’s start with the outside of the car. Check your undercarriage for any road damage. Check your tires for rotation and air pressure, as tire pressure changes with the rise and fall of outside temperatures (for every 10 degree change). The best time to check is in the morning before ambient temperatures or the sun affect it. Moreover, wiper blades also may need repair or replacement, depending on how much they are used to wipe away ice and debris, so make sure they haven’t dried out.

Neese Automotive values hard work as much as solid customer service, which is why we offer both in spades. Our latest feature is, of course, the auto aftermarket warranty, which greatly helps those who were not able to receive a standard extended warranty on their vehicle. Aftermarket warranties save money on repairs and reduce stressing over what to do with your damaged vehicle without any coverage. The best time to purchase an aftermarket warranty is around 6 months before your original warranty expires, so this way, you can easily judge your vehicle’s condition and avoid unnecessary pressure of waiting till the last minute.

Warranties

Another essential note is to do independent research on companies that offer aftermarket warranties in regards to reviews, pricing, etc. While we stand by our word and commitment, we also promote customer awareness on issues like these as a gesture of good faith. Take time and look up a company’s history, their pricing compared with others, understand the terminology being used, and most importantly, customer and industry reviews. It never hurts to get a second opinion, especially when it concerns keeping your vehicle in excellent shape. Moreover, there is a difference between extended warranties and aftermarket warranties. Extended warranties are more expensive and offered by the vehicle’s manufacturer, while aftermarket warranties are usually cheaper and from a third-party. It is important to remember the potential costs of repairs and car care with coverage as opposed to not having any and paying up front, but doing the research yourself will ultimately lead you to the best decision possible.

Neese Automotive provides quality auto repair services to the Shalimar area. Put together, the two words ‘auto repair’ become a dreaded phrase. No one likes the idea of getting their car fixed for a number of understandable reasons. It can cost money, there’s the hassle of finding a good mechanic, the delay of not having a car interferes with daily life. The good news about auto repair is that not only does it happen to everyone (so no one feels singled out), but the more you know about repair, the easier it is to overcome. With the winter season still upon us, this is a perfect time to cover the best ways to keep your car (and you) safe from the cold and avoid any unnecessary repair costs.

Simple maintenance is one of the best ways to keep your car in good condition during the winter season. This may involve doing regular systems checks, check your tires, and change your oil and filters. Regular systems checks involve inspecting your brakes, battery, cooling, heating, exhaust, and lights. While these inspections should occur regularly, frozen roads and temperatures require properly working brakes and heater. Winter tires that “provide maximum grip and control in low winter temperatures” and special tread patterns. Regarding oil filters and coolants, these must be fully functional so your engine can warm up correctly. They also strongly suggest using multiviscosity oil to help lubricate your engine and help with startup; they state the lubrication helps your engine when temperatures drop below zero. Lubrication also helps reduce wear and tear in general. Furthermore, keep an eye on your rear defroster, as to not have one in good condition would make driving very difficult.

Aside from maintenance, the other method of protection comes from being properly equipped. Ice scrappers are a solid choice for your windows, even though we are located in Florida, there will be those cold mornings when your window is frozen. Shovels, blankets, and de-icers will also come in handy.

These are just a few tips about staying safe while driving during the winter. Obviously, there are different winter conditions for different areas, but it’s best to know all possible measures just in case. Regardless of how extreme the winter conditions are, drive slow and pay attention. Moreover, planning ahead can do wonders for driving in the cold. If you know you have to wake up early, start your car before you have to leave, so it warms up. Also, if your windows ice up and you don’t have an ice scrapper, you can use cold water to melt the ice (Do not use warm water, as it could crack the window).

During the winter season, driving and car maintenance requires a slight tune-up. First things first: inspection. Check your car to make sure you have enough antifreeze, healthy tires (as well as a spare just in case), your brakes, and your heating system. Have reliable windshield wipers, too. Cold weather brings icy roads, frosty windows, and increased uncertainty on the road, so always make sure you are as prepared as possible. Another important item on your checklist is checking under the hood. The battery should be charged; hoses and belts should be clean; you should have enough transmission fluid; and check the thermostat and radiator for any potential problems. Now if your heat does not work, there are DIY methods to counteract the cold. Buy an ice scraper for those cold mornings when your windshield freezes; it’s quicker than waiting for the heat to turn on. If you have to use water to melt the ice, do NOT use hot water, only cool or lukewarm. Hot water will stimulate a sudden temperature change that could crack the windshield. This is not the complete list of car preservation, but a convenient overview of necessary and vital information that should be expanded upon by the drivers themselves.

Winter Auto Repair in Florida

Even though this list sounds overly abundant, it is also extremely necessary to maintain solid upkeep on your vehicle. Auto repair bills can skyrocket if the vehicle if left unattended. Of course you will spend money on maintenance, but that money is considerably cheaper and more cost-effective than waiting till the last minute to repair more that could have been avoided early on. Additionally, remember that most of these tips also apply to spring and summer. Even though we live in the Sunshine State that is Florida, we still get cold weather, so don’t disregard these tips just because it does not snow here. Regular checking should be a daily routine when you get in your car and when you get out. The best part about car maintenance is that the more you do it, the more it becomes a habit, and then it is almost second nature.

One of the most common mistakes people make when dealing with auto companies is not performing prior research before taking it to an expert. This is not to dissuade potential customers from seeing a professional, but simply courteous advice. Researching auto repair is about more than finding symptoms for your car’s ailment, like some auto version of ‘Web M.D.’: it involves average maintenance costs, labor fees, accessibility of parts, the most reliable manufacturers, etc. Like anything else, going into a situation knowing as much as possible will help you in the long run; that awareness will alleviate any worry over surprise auto billing or potentially lengthy timetables for repairs. Moreover, when discussing your vehicle with the mechanic, it won’t just be random jargon you hear, but perhaps some keywords that you remember looking up before. For instance, we mentioned CV axles earlier. The basic rundown on CV joint axles is that they are found in front wheel and rear drive cars and essentially deliver power to the front drive wheels. If you turn your steering wheel and hear a popping noise, the joint has gone bad. Becoming more familiar with your car is always recommended.

If you live in the Fort Walton Beach, Destin, Shalimar, Niceville or surrounding northwest Florida areas and are looking for top-notch auto repair and maintenance, you’ve come to the right place. Neese Automotive puts work ethic and quality customer service at a higher premium than most places. Think of us as a new car: Give us a test drive and go from there, but we guarantee you’ll be satisfied with the result.
